Poker it is one of the most recognizable gambling games in the world. Each of us is familiar with the sight of concentrated players, whose faces do not express the slightest emotion. Poker is very fondly referred to in pop culture, which often shows it in action movies, as the first symbolic duel of a good hero with his opponent. We often don't know how to play poker.
However, the rules of the game of poker is not a secret knowledge, a piece of which can only be seen in the movies. On the contrary, it is very popular, both in land-based casinos and online casinos . And at international poker tournaments you can win really big money.
For those unfamiliar with the rules of Poker, it can seem very complicated. However, in reality, the rules of poker are not complicated at all, but they require experience and skill from the player.
Below you will find history and information on how to play poker.
History of poker
The history of establishing the current poker rules is not entirely clear. Some historians claim that a similar game was played by the Chinese in 900 AD. but the sources of the rules of poker can be found in both the Indian game ganjifa the Persian game as nas . The greatest probability is that the rules of poker come from many cultures that during colonization and distant expeditions penetrated each other.
The first documented records of this game date back to 1834. They were created by Jonathan H. Green, however, everything indicates that the rules of Poker were known before. In 1864, the first official records of American rules poker, The Cowboy version of Stud Poker, were published. For this reason, the game was often called: Stud-Horse.
However, none of these items was a manual in which we will find poker rules. These did not appear until 1904. It was created by R. F. Foster, based on historical research. This article describes exactly how to play poker.
The popularity of poker comes from the fact that despite the large randomness factor-players have no influence on what cards they get – an experienced player is able to minimize the risk of losing and win large sums of money. However, to do this, you need to know the rules of poker.
Interestingly, although poker is a typical table game, it has many successful versions online. It must be admitted that this is a unique way-from an ordinary card game to virtual reality.
Is it possible to play without knowing the rules of poker?
Poker rules are very simple – but without their knowledge we do not even what to sit down to the table. This is not a game that you can learn to play during gameplay for two reasons:
- When we ask about the strength of a hand in a game, we are breaking a basic poker rule: secrecy. The beauty of the game is that we have no idea what our opponents have. We can only guess based on the cards we have and the cards the dealer has dealt.
- Without knowledge of poker game rules, we will not be able to properly place bets. Poker is largely based on winning bets. This is where the biggest emotions lie: we are not sure what the opponent has and we have to hope that his cards are worse.
That's why we have prepared poker game rules for beginners.
5 Card Poker: rules
In classic poker, the rules have 10 winning hands. Of course, poker card rules can change depending on the version we play – but knowing these 10 hands, will allow us to quickly implement themselves in different variations of the rules of the game of poker. They all include 5-Card poker rules.
Royal Poker (Royal flush)
If you draw this deal, you are in a certain winning situation. This is the best possible 5-Card Poker Hand. The cards are stacked from Ace to 10 in order and of the same suit. This is such a rare type of hand that you can be pretty sure that no one else at the table will have it.
Poker (Straight flush)
Also called straight in color. This is a 5-card hand of the same suit. The cards must appear one after the other. The card size itself is not important (however, it is supposed to be lower than Royal poker), unless someone at the table will also have a poker player. Then the victory is decided by the higher high card.
Kareta (Four of a kind)
In poker, the rules of this hand are most accurately described by the English name, that is, four of a kind. The point is that they are four cards of identical value. It can be four 9's, four 10's, four 5's, or four queens.
Ful (Full house)
Ful is a hand where you get a three and a pair. If the Ful has more than one player, the rules of poker treat it as follows.
First, we compare who has the stronger three. If the three are equal, then a pair is compared in value.
Color (Flush)
In this hand, we try to collect all the cards of the same color. How is color different from Poker? The rules are simple: in color cards do not have to go in turn (as in the example). If we collect the cards in order, we have laid the poker, not the color.
If several players have laid a suit (which is possible because there are 4 suits in the deck), the one with the strongest high card wins.
Straight
A straight is a sequence of cards, regardless of the suit. In this case, in poker, the rules of the game say about a minimum of one card of a different color from the others. If they are all the same color, we get Poker. So this is a very important difference.
In a straight, it is possible to use an ace as both the highest card and the lowest card. For example:
- As the lowest penalty: A-2-3-4-5
- Ace as highest card: A-K-D-W-10
However, the Ace cannot play a double role in the hand. So we can't go from high cards to low cards by using an ace as a kind of connector, for example: K-A-2-3-4 it is not allowed in the rules of poker.
Three (Three of a kind)
The rule of three in poker is exactly the same as with a card, except that instead of four cards, we have three of the same value and two that do not fit and do not pair. As in previous hands, if more than one player has a three, we first consider which three is stronger, and if they are the same, we check the value of the highest of the five cards. So if you have a king, for example, and your opponent's highest card is a Queen, then the King will give you a victory, even if it is not part of the three.
Two pairs (Two pairs)
This is a hand in which we get two pairs of the same value. If another player also has two pairs, we consider the pairs according to top poker rules. First, consider the strength of the older (higher) pair. When both players have the same value of the older pair, we check the younger (lower) pair. In the event that the values coincide here, we compare the strongest card that players have.
Couple (One pair)
This is a single pair of cards of the same value. As with the above hands, if more than one player has a pair, we first compare the values of these pairs, and when this does not solve the case – the strength of the highest card,
High card (High card)
This is the weakest hand possible – but if other players get weak cards, it can guarantee us victory. In the example above, the highest card is the Queen. Of course, having such a layout, we must assume that the other players managed to put something better. At the same time, if we want to win something on the highest card, only the highest value counts.
If the strongest card in our Cards is, for example, a 7, then according to the rules of poker, we have a very low probability that it will be the strongest card on the table.
Poker rules: player decisions
However, the rules of Poker do not end only with the knowledge of the cards. What the players themselves do is also important. Their decisions depend on what they get their hands on. Players report their actions using commands:
- Pass (fold) - poker rules allow submission of the game. Used if the player sees that his cards are weak and does not want to add to the next bets in the hand. This is equivalent to losing a hand and losing chips already placed. In poker, the rules state that the game can be played at any stage, even after receiving the cards.
- Check-poker rules allow you to wait to see what other players will do. This is only possible when the BET has not been raised, otherwise the player must decide whether to even the bet or match.
- Check (call) - this is the acceptance of the challenge. Another player raises the BET, and the other player decides to continue the game and matches it. This is the basic principle of playing poker.
- Bet – this is the first bet placed on a given round.
- Raise-if you have promising cards, you can raise the bet, that is, increase the bet amount. The other players, according to the rules of Poker, are forced to make a decision: level the bet, raise it even more, fold. It is this command that eliminates the competition and gives a chance to win the round. If it is done, players can no longer choose to wait.
- Va banque (all-in) - this is betting all the chips you have. Not all poker games allow this. Players do this when they have very high hands and there is zero chance that someone will beat them, or when, for example, the opponent will not be able to match such a beaten bet and will have to surrender it. This is a risky move, because if a player makes a mistake, he loses everything and falls out of the game.
Poker bluff
The rules of poker also include bluffing. Many people know only one strategy. And when we think about how to play poker, we are not so much concerned with knowing the rules or commands, but with the ability to keep a stony face. Which is the wrong approach.
Because it is true, we should not let our opponents know how good our cards are, because then they will quickly withdraw from the bets and our winnings will be low.
The poker principle of bluff, however,is the opposite tactic: playing despite very low cards and pretending to be high. During the bluff, we hope to raise the bet so high that everyone else will give up further play through the "belt". This is the only way in the rules of poker in which we will not be forced to show and compare cards.
Why is this a very risky game? Because having low cards, we can safely assume that the perfect ones hit the rest of the people. This means that at least one person will take up our challenge, and having good cards can not give up on raising bets and force us to reveal and compare the cards. And in this situation, we lose a lot of money.
Poker bluff rule should therefore only experienced players who can sense whether to bet more and more. New players who try to use a bluff can quickly fall out of the game.
Betting limits in poker
In poker, the rules of the game also include the amount of bets placed. Their knowledge is so important that thanks to this we can consciously choose the poker rules, which corresponds to our financial resources. Of course, the higher the limits, the higher the final winnings – but it is worth remembering that this also includes high losses.
But what exactly are the limits? Poker game rules defines limits as the amount of bets placed and their raise. Limits must not be exceeded. How to play Poker with limits?
- Fixed limit – in poker, this rule means a fixed bet amount. For example, a tako bet can be $ 2 or $ 50, depending on the table. What is important, such a game also has a raise limit, it can be 2 raises, it can be 5. However, upon reaching this limit, players can no longer raise their bet and must check their cards or surrender.
- Pot limit-this game of poker rules has more complicated. In this case, the rules of Poker at the same time have a limit on the amount of bets and do not have any limit. How is that possible? It all depends on the size of the pot – the amount of bets can not exceed it. At the same time, poker rules do not limit the number of wins in this case. This means that the initial bets will be low, but each subsequent raise can be more and more, because the bet pool increases. The difficulty in these poker game rules is that we need to be able to determine the amount of the pot and continuously control it.
- No limit-this is the only version of the rules of poker in which you can play va banque. The amount of bets and the number of conquests is unlimited. As long as we have the right amount of money.
